This painting followed a dream I had, in which I was standing on the edge of the universe watching its creation and destruction simultaneoulsy. It was.. Vladislav who pointed out the telling peacock’s feathers just immerging; apparently these herald the start of integration and re-birth, (albedo) in an initiate who has gone through the necessary baptism of fire and water. However this purging and rejuvenation may need to take place many times before he is able to achieve a vision of his own re-birth within.
The ancients, believed that a peacock’s flesh did not die after death. Thus it has always been associated with immortality. Moreover, their feathers renew themselves annually so they were often used to decorate churches during Easter to symbolise renewal and resurection.
